Prime Minister Montenegro at the NYSE: Portugal is Open for Business
The Portugal-US Chamber of Commerce was honored to join Prime Minister Luís Montenegro on Tuesday, September 22, during his visit to the New York Stock Exchange, marking the end of the trading day with the ringing of the closing bell.
The visit opened his three-day trip to the United States, which includes participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The Prime Minister took this opportunity to showcase Portugal's economic growth and prosperity to U.S. investors, with a clear message that Portugal is open to investments and business.
Luís Montenegro highlighted Portugal's public finances, including an expected budget surplus for the fourth consecutive year and Fitch's recent rating upgrade to A+, while also citing Microsoft's plan to invest more than $10 billion in the country in the coming years.
The U.S. is already Portugal's 4th largest customer and 7th largest investor, and the number of U.S. citizens living in Portugal grew 38% between 2023 and 2025.
With ties this strong, and momentum continuing to build, we look forward to helping strengthen them even further on the western side of the Atlantic.
