Lisbon, Ibero-American Capital of Culture 2017

In 2017, Lisbon is the cultural capital of a world that brings together more than 120 million people from the Iberian Peninsula, Mexico and South and Central America. To celebrate this fact, there will be a year-long programme of about 150 activities and unmissable events.

Lisbon was elected by the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities to be cultural capital for 2017, and will host a series of events under the Past/Present theme that evoke the traces, routes and evidence of the past, but also celebrate the enjoyment and creativity of people who speak the languages of this community, from Castilian to Portuguese, using other mother tongues or adopted languages,and speak with different pronunciations from Galician to Guarani.

This huge programme includes exhibitions, theatre, concerts, dance, conferences, gastronomic events and tours around the city that will enjoy the participation of hundreds of artists, producers, teachers and cultural promoters.
